For the last 14 years John has been perfecting his skill in impressionistic painting. He moved into painting because he wanted to express the beauty he saw in objects. John revisited the impressionists and while riding on their shoulders, he was introduced to the liveliness and freedom of brush work. This step liberated his talent and helped him to express an emotional response to his subject matter that he felt he was missing in his previous work.
"I prefer the 'Alla Prima' approach, which came into favor with the impressionists," says John. "This allows me to paint generously and unhesitatingly while not losing my first impression, freshness and spontaneity. My mission is to capture, on canvas, the essence of nature's shapes, light, color, and atmosphere at the time human eyes first sense their existence."
